Pirate Code

By signing up for the sailing weekend, you agree to the following pirate code:

1. You shall have a vote in matters of moment. You shall have equal title to fresh provisions and strong liquors seized at any time, and you may use them at pleasure unless scarcity makes it necessary, for the good of all, to vote a retrenchment.

2. You shall be called fairly in turn, by list, on board of prizes, and above your proper share you shall be allowed one shift of clothes. If you defraud the company to the value of a dollar in plate, jewels, or money, you shall suffer marooning. If your robbery is only betwixt one another, your ears and nose shall be slit, and you shall be set ashore where hardships are sure to follow.

3. You shall not game at cards or dice for money.

4. You shall put out lights and candles at eight o'clock at night. If after that hour you still remain inclined for drinking, you shall do it on the open deck.

5. You shall keep your piece, pistols, and cutlass clean and fit for service.

6. You shall not desert the ship or your quarters in battle. If you do, you shall suffer death or marooning.

7. You shall not strike one another on board. Every quarrel shall be ended on shore, at sword and pistol. The quartermaster shall accompany you with such assistance as he thinks proper, and shall turn the disputants back to back at the appointed distance. At the word of command, you shall turn and fire immediately, or else your piece shall be knocked out of your hand. If both miss, you shall come to your cutlasses, and the victor shall be the one who draws the first blood.

8. You shall not talk of breaking up this way of living until each pirate has shared one thousand pounds. If, in service of the company, you lose a limb or become a cripple, you shall receive eight hundred dollars out of the public stock, and for lesser hurts proportionately.

9. The Captain and Quartermaster shall receive two shares of a prize. The master, boatswain, and gunner shall receive one share and a half, and other officers one and a quarter.
